Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
